Committee of Transylvania 432 Pope’s Island Road Milford, CT 06460-1751 November 15th, 1999 We are writing this letter to you with our humble request to use your influence on behalf of the Hungarian Church High Schools in Romania which were confiscated by the Communist Regime but have not yet been returned to their rightful church owners. The request of the churches for the return of their church schools and for their rights to operate them was supported by the European Council, but the Romanian Government refuses to consider it to this day. While the Greek Orthodox and Orthodox Churches have had most of their properties returned, the Protestant and Roman Catholic Churches with 2.5 million Hungarian parishioners had not had any of their schools and properties given back. In order to maintain their ethnic identity, the most crucial issue for the well being of the Hungarian minority in Romania is the return of the following schools: Reformed High School for Girls Brasov (Brassó) Reformed Commercial High School for Boys Brasov (Brassó) Roman Catholic High Scholl for Boys Brasov (Brassó) Roman Catholic High School for Boys Miercurea Ciuc (Csíkszereda) Reformed High School for Girls Sft.
