ALAPJOGOK, ALKOTMÁNYTAN ÉS ÁLLAMHATALOM CONSTITUTIONAL RIGHTS, CONSTITUTIONAL THEORY AND STATE AUTHORITY Perspectives of Győző Concha ’s Interpretation of the English Constitution By Miklós Lojkó SUMMARY Győző Concha (1846-1933) is known by both historians and lawyers as the leading political philosopher of pre-1918 Hungary. He regularly underpinned his reasoning in the fields of the history of ideas, constitutional and administrative law with arguments taken from English legal and constitutional theory. Analysing Concha’s four writings from the end of the nineteenth century, the paper concludes that on the very basis of his expertise in English law and history, he should also be reckoned among the Hungarian Anglophile authors, and his oeuvre studied from that perspective as well. Yet the paper also draws attentention to such elements in Concha’s constitutional thinking that either appear in a different light from a modern standpoint, or may otherwise be reassessed on the basis of the development and transformation thatEnglish law and the mostly uncodified constitution have gone through in the meantime. 450
