KL ÉRTÉKHALMOZÁS CSENDES ÉVTIZEDEI szemmel válogattak a régi és az új avantgárd alkotók művei közül, biztosítva a gyűjtemény relevanciáját. A Fővárosi Képtár története azt mutatja, hogy a Kádár-korszakban bizonyos kompromisszumok megkötésével hogyan lehetett viszonylag szabadon felépíteni egy — csak részben — rendszerkompatibilis gyűjteményt, és rekonstruálni azt, ami az 1950-es években elveszett. Az első gyűjtemény elvételének traumáját generációk örökítették tovább, de ez nem destruktívan, inkább inspirálóan hatott az utódokra: a századfordulón lendületet kapott gyűjtés modern szemléletének továbbvitele az ellenállás sajátos magatartását jelentette a számukra. A képtár nevének visszaadásával 1989-ben sok évtizednyi módszeres építkezés után a főváros második és egyetlen képzőművészeti gyűjteménye — ha függetlenségét nem is, de - elnyerhette azt a rangját, amellyel elődje a két világháború közötti időszakban rendelkezett. QUIET YEARS OF TREASURE ACCUMULATION The History of the Municipal Gallery 1959-1989 By Enikő Róka SUMMARY The study focuses on the Municipal Gallery, which functions in the framework of the Budapest History Museum, as a historical and intellectual construction. It aims to draw tendencies and possibilities, and track down the development whereby in the formation of the collection the aspect of urban history has gradually been joined by the art historical canon. In the period between 1959 and 1989 the capital’s patronage was continuous, and the directions of collection were determined by the widely diverging perspectives of two successive generations. The first period, between 1959-1973, was characterised, alongside the collection of the works of art of socialist modernism, and of Nagybánya and post-Nagybánya painting, by the extension of the limits of the official canon. From the mid-1970s, the new generation of art historians who joined the Museum selected with fresh eyes from the works of old and more recent avantgárd artists, thus securing the continuing relevance of their collection. 1170
