JOHANN HEINRICH BISTERFELD ÉS AZ ERDÉLYI KÜLPOLITIKA, 1638-1643 representatives of the anti-Habsburg powers in the Thirty Years War with offers for cooperation, but after the initial enthusiasm, negotiations stalled. I argue that the reason for the tardiness of the parleys can be found less in Rákóczi ’ s excessive demands than in the (altogether unfounded) lack of trust on the Swedish side. The study also reconstructs the activities of the person who stood behind the prince’s stubbornness in repeating his offers: Johann Heinrich Bisterfeld, professor of the Gyulafehérvár College, who was involved in princely politics at an exceptionally high level for the age. 516
