ZÁRA 1345-1346. ÉVI VELENCEI OSTROMA A NARRATÍV KÚTFŐK TÜKRÉBEN THE SIEGE OF ZADAR (1345-1346) IN LIGHT OF NARRATIVE SOURCES By Judit Csákó SUMMARY The purpose of the paper is to examine the narrative sources about the siege of Zadar in 1345-1346 by the armies of the Republic of Venice and the military campaign launched by King Louis I (the Great) of Hungary (1342-1382) to relieve the Dalmatian town. First there is a presentation of the corpus constisting of texts (the Obsidio Jadrensis by an anonymous Zaratin author, Venetian chronicles including the Chronica Jadretina and other Italian and Austrian sources) that provide information on the conflict. Next, it attempts to take a closer look at how the presence of the Hungarian armies at Zadar is portrayed in the chronicles through specific themes, like the presence of the Hungarian king or his army or the members of the campaign. It analyzes the divergent traditions concerning the course of the battle fought on 1 July 1346 and the possible causes of Louis’s defeat (such as the eventual betrayal by his barons). 1166
