None of those who reached this elevated post later became persons of outstanding reputation, yet fourfifths of them made a decent career as pastors. Revealingly, not a single conspicuous feature of the group can be identified: it appears that the College overcame sociocultural disadvantages by providing its students with mobility mechanisms that were as flexible as possible.
