EGY HIVATALNOK PÁrHUZAMOS NAPLÓI A TANÁCSKÖZTÁrSASÁGrÓL 926 THE PArALLEL DIArIES OF AN OFFICIAL OF THE HUNGArIAN rEPUBLIC OF COUNCILS By Boldizsár Vörös SUMMArY János József Lowetinszky (1866–1935), a petty bureaucrat employed in Pest county, kept two parallel diaries for years, the period of the Hungarian republic of Councils included. In one of them he recorded the events of his private life, and in the other the actual events of Hungarian and world history. Working from a variety of sources, he attempted to orient the various manifestations of the regime, as well as to describe and even evaluate them with the help of varied tools. This immense material not only helps with understanding the way in which a person outside the political and scientific elite, yet highly interested in the history of his own times, regarded the republic of Councils and presented it. In a more general way, it offers revealing examples of the ways in which such a person could attempt to get information about contemporary events and to understand and record them.
