2018 / 2. szám - FIUMÉTÓL KONSTANTINÁPOLYIG - Ordasi Ágnes: Bombamerényletek a fiumei kormányzóság ellen (1913–1914)
BOMB ATTACKS AGAINST THE GOVERNOR’S OFFICE AT FIUME ( 1913–1914) by Ágnes Ordasi SUMMARY According to the terms of the provisory act ratified on 28 July 1870, the governor of Fiume headed the government administration of the city of Fiume and the maritime parts of Hungary-Croatia, and thus his person represented Hungarian state authority there. As all his activities were regarded as authorised by the central government, every atrocity directed against either his person or his office qualified as a seditious act. The present paper explores the causes and effects of the most extreme of such atrocities: the bomb attacks of 1913 and 1914. Rather than focus on the culprits themselves, it draws attention to the several-decades-long conflict that set the governorship and the local political elite against each other, the latter jealously guarding their city’s political autonomy against the centralising policies of the government.
