A MODERNIZÁCIÓTÓL A KOLONIZÁCIÓS TÖREKVÉSEKIG 316 to both claims and opportunities for more intensive economic engagement in the region. While the Hungarian economy suffered from a lack of markets, raw material and capital, it had to face the competition posed not only by the nascent small states and the great powers, but also by the Cisleithanian parts of the Habsburg Monarchy. The study thus aims to trace the changes that took place during economic expansion-related indoctrination and to examine the suitability of the existing institutional toolkit in a situation of restricted financial opportunities, as well as to describe the various representatives of an economic policy that advocated for the acquisition of markets and raw materials (politicians, financial managers, scientists, publicists) and their relational networks through an analysis of their publicistic activities.
