AZ ÁRPÁDOK KORAI DINASZTIKUS KONFLIKTUSAI 409 Álmos alávetése azonban — függetlenül az Árpádok közötti 11. századi hatalmi küzdelmek alakulásától — a hányattatott sorsú 14. századi krónikaszerkesztmény szempontjából sem érdektelen. Nézetünk szerint jól látszik ugyanis, hogy létezett egy olyan, legkésőbb a Kálmán-ág uralmának vége előtt keletkezett elbeszélés, amelynek egyik legfontosabb mondanivalója az lehetett, hogy a korszak bevett szimbolikus nyelvén értő közönségnek elmondja, hogy miként kezdődött a „gyönyörű barátság" Magyarország királyai és hercegei között I. András és Béla idején, s hogyan ért véget Kálmán és Álmos korában. THE END OF A FRIENDSHIP The subjection of Almos in 1106 and the early dynastic conflicts of the Arpáds by Dániel Bagi (Summary) The present study focuses on one chapter of the struggle for the throne between king Coloman and prince Almos, which can be read in one of the chapters of the 14-th-centuiy chronicle compilation. It aims to determine the extent to which the subjection of Álmos, which occurred in 1106, influenced the judgement of the struggle for the throne among the Árpáds in the time of Coloman himself and of the rulers of his line. Subjection had been one of the common means of ending political conflicts since the Carolingian period. Through subjection, the vanquished party acknowledged his guiltiness, renounced his claim to exert power, in exchange for which he could at least hope to retain his private landed estate. At the time of his subjection, Álmos must have been aware of the fact that he thereby abandoned any claim to political power. Nevertheles, his obstinacy in continuing the conflict with his brother may have been fuelled by an attempt on the latter's part to confiscate his private lands. The study consequently tries to answer the question of whether the other attempts at subjection, which took place in the earlier phase of the inter-dynastic struggles of the Árpáds, were related to the subjection of prince Álmos.
