TANULMÁNYOK - Pálosfalvi Tamás: Grebeni Hermanfí László alnádor. Egy tekintélyes szlavón köznemesi politikus pályaképe (Második közlemény) II/267

The next long section deals with different aspects of the office of vicebanus, proving that by the second half of the 15th century the deputy bans had become the regular judges of the Slavonian nobility A long excurse is devoted to the question of how the judicial seals of the banal seat were kept and used, a problem that was closely connected to the election of a local protonotary. The study proves that the seals of the vicebani became the routine means of hnadling everyday affairs, and consequently their keeping was always conferred on a trusted person of Slavonian origin. If the protonotary was non-Slavonian, a vice-protonotary was elected by the local noble community, who regularly issued charters at his residence in the name of the bans. The place of László Hermanfi within the local noble community is established by an examination of his activities as a representative of the Slavonian community in different episodes of the long dispute with the bishop of Zagreb over the paying of the tithe as well as an elected envoy at the general assemblies. His presence could be proved at eleven such assemblies, which, in view of the fact that we hardly know any envoys by the name, is in itselt a result of importance. It proves beyond doubt that the Slavonian nobility took an active part in the work of general assemblies, and stayed close to the royal court, which remained a constant point of reference for them. The last section analyses briefly the last will of László Hermanfi, his devotional preferences on the basis of donations to different churches.
