Obiective / Esettanulmányok / Case Studies - Buzás Gergely - Eszes Bernadett: XI. századi görög monostor Visegrádon
79 XI. századi görög monostor Visegrádon carved stone pieces allow the reconstruction of the whole church structure: it was a basilica with three naves, and an 'emporiumbuilt from stone-blocks. The main sanctuary had a rectangular end, while the lateral ones had semicircular apses. This church-type and the style of the carvings fit well to the architectural milieu of Hungary in the eleventh century, and they suggest connections rather with the Adriatic region, than the influence of Greek or other eastern styles. Toward the south, along the church was built the so called ‘trapezda ’, the only known building of the monastic complex. It had a rectangular ground-plan, and it was built of harrows. The roof was held by stone pillars. The entrance was on the western part, on the short side of the building. The archaeological finds were difficult to interpret due to the extensive recent interventions. One group of finds is older than the monastery, being recovered from pits, which are cut by the foundation of the church. Another significant group was recovered from the fireplace of the western wing of the monastic complex, build after the eleventh century core of the monastic buildings. Unfortunately, it could not be linked any find to the p eriod of the foundation of the monastery (eleventh century). Except of few ceramic fragment of Moravian import of tenth-eleventh century, the finds fit to the average types recovered from the sites of this period. 1. kép
