Adrian Andrei Rusu: Capele şi cetăţi în Transilvania şi vecinătăţile ei în secolele XIII-XIV
Those castles, where a palace building was identified — this construction is the most suitable to create a chapel - are again considered, as possible location of chapels. The last category of the sources is the mentions referring to the patron saints of certain parts of the castles: towers or gatehouses, indicating the possible existence of a chapel. All type of information is collected according to the group of the owners, but the detailed analysis is limited by the number of preserved sources. Chapels, standing as independents building, can be best illustrated. Among them, two main groups can be identified, according to the ground-plan: sanctuaries with rectangular ending, and those with apse. There are few sources on chapels, incorporated in towers or gatehouses. Decorations are even rarer: in most cases the remaining part is under the soil-surface, and only with archaeological methods can be analyzed. In this case, some former information is reconsidered and reinterpreted by the author (Turnu Severin). Capele şi cetăţi în Transilvania Fig. 1. 121
