FROM ETHNO-CONFESSIONAL DETERMINATIONS TO SOCIO-PROFESSIONAL DETERMINATIONS IN THE ESTABLISHMENT OF MIXED MARRIAGES AT THE GREEK-CATHOLIC POPULATION IN CRISANA AND SATMAR AT THE BEGINNING OF THE 20TH CENTURY toan Horga (Romania) The establishment of determinations that influence the marrital strategies of the population from a certain historical period, be it close to us, is extremely difficult to any researcher who imposes himself to reconsituate the social life due to the intimate character of the relationship of two protagonists of the marriage. There is no doubt that, beyond the intimate character of this relationship, the marriage has been and still is a means to attain a certain social status. The measurement of the distance between intimacy, as primordial determinant in the establishment of marrital strategies, and the motivation of attaining a certain social status remains an important challenge not only for an historian, who by the nature of his preocupations deals with phenomena and outdated processes, but also for a sociologist, who deals upon the contemporary phenomena and social processes. Examining the documentary stock of the Greek - Catholic Bishopric of Oradea, guarded at the National Archives of Oradea, I have found a vast documentary material which lends itself to answer to a great extend such an imperative. This material is composed of annual reports of the parishes belonging to the diocese of Oradea and regards the mixed marriages; until 1866 the reports on mixed marriages are relatively few in number. After this year they become more systematic, level maintained till 1914. When analysing the reports on mixed marriages, we tried to stand out the relations and the determinations of ethno-confessional or socioprofessional nature from which their accomplishment proceeded. In fact, this was the aim of the second stage of this research. This stage contained the centralisation on years of the obtained information, using for this two types of grids. The 1st type has in view the evaluation of ethno-confessional determinations. It contains the following: 1. The situation when the man is of Greek- Catholic (GC) confession and the woman is of another confession (O-Orthodox, RC- Roman-Catholic, HC-Helvetian confession, Calvinist, or Refonnat confession, EV-Evangelic, Lutheran, HE-Hebrew); 2. The woman is of GC confession and the man is of another confession (0, RC, HC, EV, HE).
