Etnie şi confesiune

112 Ileana Burnichioiu century, Bârsău is part of Şoimuş domain, and the noble-title of Mara 's father is given by this settlement. The remains of funeral stones belonging to the members of the family, with inscriptions, and the crypt - discovered in the center of the nave, and dated in the I6'h century - show ihat the church of Bârsău became a funeral place. The pious action of rebuilding and re-painting the church is explained by this intention: to transform the church into funeral place. This transformation probably happened after 1562, the year of Nicolas Cherepovici ’s death. The investigation on the painting obtained more precise results on the date of the paintings, the extent of others additional rebuilding-works and their types. The paintings were made between 1562 and 1572, and before realizing them, the nave and the vaults of the altar was renewed. In the some time, a crypt was made in the nave, a porch was added to the southern entrance, and a circular wall was made around the church. These architectural transformations made in the I6'h century, and comparing the architectural features of the church with analogies, the author argues that - despite of the previous thesis of historical literature - the foundation of the church of Bârsău could took place before the beginning of the 15,h century.
