King Sigismund donated the locality to the Perenyi barons in 1399, who owned the land until the mid-nineteenth century. The construction of Perenyi Castle started in the 16th century. In 1660, the castle was ravaged by the Turks, an event described by the Turk Evlia Celebi. We should not lose the sight of the beautiful local churches, the Calvinist Church and the Roman Catholic church “The Assumption of the Holy Virgin,” which stand as proof for the passing of time and for examples of ecclesiastic architecture.

The Church “The Birth of the Holy Virgin” of Gherţa Mică was built between 1868-1873, instead of an old wooden churches. Local tradition says that the wood of the old church was used for building a water mill in the locality. It’s important
