The Greek Catholic Church - Perényi Castle

of the Middle Ages. The catholic Schwabs colonized in the village have taken the building through the Perényi family at the middle of the 18th century. The protestant community had to build a new church. The church today has a polygonal closure and the wooden tower dating from the 18th century makes it special. The building has two bells made in 1846 and in 1923, respectively. The Greek Catholic Church The present edifice was made between 1886-1903, on the place of an old wooden church, with the contribution of the parishioners. The inside paintings date from 1925-1926. The old iconostasis was replaced during the same renovation work with the one today. Perényi Castle The first phase of the castle dates back at the end of the 17th century or at the beginning of the 18th century. It still dominates the center of Turulung and houses the school of the locality. At the beginning, the structure of the building was rather simple, with ground floor and basement, but a precise evaluation of its structure at this stage cannot be done because of the numerous subsequent interventions. The most significant changes were made in the specific classic style of that period, in the 19th century. At that time, the castle was the property of Count Hessenstein, who had a matrimonial alliance with the Perényi family.
