revolt in comparison to the neighbouring settle­ments, therefore, the villagers who took refugee out of the passing armies’ way, returned home in less than two weeks. After the defeat of Rákóczi revolt, the largest landowner of Satu Mare County, and in the entire North-East Hungary, became the Károlyi Family. The Ecsed Domain, purchased by Alexander Károlyi in the years 1746 and 1758, constituted a significant portion of its properties. Although Sanislău was not a target for the massive colonization of the German population initiated by the owners, a great number of Swab families, settled initially in the nearby villages, came here, especially during the second half of the 18th cen­tury. Unlike other neighbouring villages, the local population did not leave the village at the Swabi­ans’ arrival, and even nowadays Sanislău remains a mixed settlement, with people belonging to differ­ent ethnic and religious communities. According to the statistical sources made at the end of the 18th century and the early 19th century, in the village lived 1420 Greek-catholics, 490 Roman-catholics and 18 Jews. During the revolutions of 1848, which covered all countries of Europe, one of the most power­ful movements of Sătmar (Satu Mare) area took place in Sanislău.
