in the trend of the period to increase the duties of the serfs. The difficulties encountered by peasants grew insupportable due to the lack of sufficient agricultural land available which would meet the increasing quantity of taxes. The written sources on the domanial economy, mention the existence of huge allodial lands at Sanislău, during the 17th century and the beginning of the 18th century. These plots belonged to the lord and they reduced significantly the agricultural output of the village inhabitants. The forests within the territory of Sanislău, belonged also to the noble owner, there­fore, the use of wood and acorns were thus pro­hibited to peasants. In spite of these, the serfs of Sanislău owed a tax of 24 florins a year and the tenth part of their crops, sheep, pigs and honey. The landless ones also used to pay 15 denarius an­nually, which they could got as day labourers in the field. The allodium of the lord was worked in a triennial system, which was an advanced agri­cultural system, still quite rarely encountered in this period. During the revolt led by Francis Rákóczi II, prince of Transylvania, one of the largest num­bers of recruits came from Sanislău: 27 villagers were enrolled in the army of the rebels.
