the Parlament, representing the town of Carei and its district since 1887 until the end of his life. Besides his political career, he was also involved in cultural and scientific life. He was chairman of the National Casino and, since 1907, he was elected member in the Board of the Hungarian Academy. His name is related to the transformation of the castle of Carei in the Romantic style. Following the reconstruction works of 1894-1896, coordinated by architect Arthur Meining, the castle got its present shape. Between 10 and 12 October 1884, the Crown Prince Rudolf and his wife were guests of the castle of Carei, invited by Stephan Károlyi. He died in 1907 in Carei, being the last family member who lived permanently in the castle. Károlyi István (1797-1881) Unterbrechungen bis zu seinem Tod Abgeordneter. Bei dieser Umbau erhielt das Schloss seinen heutigen Form. Rudolf, Kronprinz von Österreich und Ungarn in Begleitung von seiner Frau Stefánia verweilten als Gast von István Károlyi im Schloss zwischen dem 10. und 12. Oktober 1884. Er starb 1907 in Großkarol und war das letzte Familienmitglied, das dieses Schloss als ständigen Wohnsitz nutzte. Károlyi Sándor (1831-1906)
