Odoreu

construction works started in 1975 and ended in 1983. The Greek Catholic one is still under construction. A monument honors the memory of four local inhabi­tants executed by communist secret service in 1949. Berindan was mentioned in 1330 for the first time as the property of Berendi family. Brought here by the king, they were raised to nobility in 1463. At the end of the 15th century, the village belonged to the Seini do­main and later to several small nobles. The Calvinist church was built around 1927 and the Greek Catholic one in 1936-39. The village only has 86 inhabitants. Mărtineşti was mentioned in the Regestrum Va­­radense in 1213. It probably comes from the local church’s patron saint, Saint Martin. The Calvinist church was built between 1885 and 1886, while the Orthodox church of Saint Peter and Paul Apostles was built in 1956. The Roman Catholic church was conse­crated in 1995 and dedicated to Saint Martin. Cucu was mentioned in 1268 for the first time. The 1970 floods had disastrous effects here and the entire village was destroyed. Its households were never rebuilt and its entire population was relocated to Odoreu. The local council decided in 2006 to allow construction works on the former village’s territory, just as they did in the other destroyed village, Eteni’s case.
