BIBLIOTECA MUZEULUI JUDEŢEAN SATU MARE Illyés-Gulácsi ANDREA Abstract: (The library of Satu Mare County Museum) Since the beginning of the functioning of the Satu Mare County Museum it has had a scientific specialty library consisting of over 50.000 volumes. The documentary part of the library consists mainly of the collection of books that the library has inherited from the old prefecture of Satu Mare city. A different part of the library is composed by duplicated books that were given to Satu Mare County’s Museums library from the Romanian Academy’s collection of scientific books. More books, journals and newspapers especially from the interwar period were donated by the family members of the famous local poet and translator Costa Carei. Another significant donation of books was from another local intellectual Dr. Steuer György who was of Jewish origin and contributed significantly with its donation to the complexity of today’s library. The library’s collection of books and periodicals are part of the mobile National Cultural Heritage and are part of the nations treasury. During the years of its activity the library with the above-mentioned various donations and acquisitions of books has grew to a substantial number. Currently it has more than 50.000 volumes of documents and over 350 periodical publications. Our library focuses mainly on the following sciences and research domains: archeology, history, ethnography, local history, museology and pedagogical museology. The primary objective of the library is to promote to a scientific medium for researching intellectuals and to promote these above-mentioned research specialties of the local museum. During the communist era of the library’s lifespan it has seen significant growth in its rapporteur of scientific books. But the communist era is less impactful in comparison with the main wave of enlargement and growth of the library that has happened after the collapse of the socialist rule in Romania. In the 90’s the opportunity to expand the collection has arose due to the emergence of various partnership programs with different institutions and exchange programs of periodicals and books alike, this has immediately aided us in growing the collection. The old book collection and the Dr. Steuer György collection till this day remain the most well-known books within our library but thankfully in the 90s our scientific books and periodicals have also expanded helping not only the researchers of the institution but also external researchers or even students who desire to pursue scientific works and adventures in our environment.
