TRAIAN TRUFAŞIU (1882-1931) - PERSONALITATE SĂLĂJEANĂ MARCANTĂ DIN GENERAŢIA MARII UNIRI Marin POP Abstract: (Traian Trufaşiu (1882-1931) - a remarkable personality from Sălaj from the generation of the Great Union) Priest, professor, school inspector, archpriest, founder of the school and church, signatory of the Union of Transylvania with Romania on December 1, 1918, county councilor and national peasant senator, Traian Trufaşiu is honored in the gallery of great personalities from Sălaj of the generation of the Great Union.He was born on 17 March 1882 in the town of Giorocuta, which was part of the historic Salaj, and now belongs to Satu Mare County. He graduated from the Theological Seminary in Gherla in 1905, after which he remained as a Romanian teacher at Preparandia in Gherla, between 1905-1909. Prior to the Great Union, Traian Trufaşiu served as priest in the Drighiu parishes and newly established parish in the city ofZalau, and at the National Assembly in Alba Iulia on 1 December 1918 he participated as a delegate of the Zalău electoral circle. In Romania, the priest Traian Trufaşiu was involved in the political, cultural and religious life of Sălaj until his premature disappearance in 1931. Gheorghe Pop de Oarta, the first prefect of Sălaj after 1918, appointed him as secretary of Prefecture. In this capacity she also edited the „Official Gazette of Salaj County”, being her editor. He also served as a member of the county commission for the implementation of the 1921 agrarian reform, a member of the board of directors ofSilvania banks in Sirnleu and of the People’s Bank in Zalău. Since 1922 he has been appointed as the Protopop of Zalaul, county counselor from 1926 and national-peasant senator of Sălaj, in two legislatures (1927-1928 and 1928-1931). He can also be considered as one of the founders of the Greek Catholic Cathedral „The Assumption of the Mother of God” in Zalău.
