Greco-catolicii sătmăreni la sfârşitul veacului al XVIII-lea Moroşan Coste, Molnár Mihai, Pap Simon, Szilagyi Simon, Moroşan Macovei, Buzgó Dumitru, Lengyel Vasile, Dutka Ilié, Szelecsan Mihai, Apán Toader, etc. Sunt şi printre ei care plătesc taxa la biserică la fel ca şi cei din primele două categorii, ceea ce denotă probabil o situaţie materială mai bună: Pap Gheorghe, Erdei Gheorghe, Erdei Simon, etc. Un fapt curios există în tabelul din 1797 unde la sfârşit sunt trecuţi domnii Stankovits Anton, Mojszin loan şi Somlyai loan, curatorii bisericii, la care nu este trecută averea deţinută. Doar primul contribuia pentru noua biserică cu 45 florini şi 10 zile de lucru cu carul, ultimul plătea o sumă de 45 creiţari pentru întreţinerea preotului şi cantorului! în total averea celor aproximativ 722 de greco-catolici din Satu Mare (fără cei din Mintiu) se ridica la suma de 14.470 florini, membrii comunităţii donând pentru ridicarea bisericii suma de 1304 florini iar pentru întreţinerea preotului şi cantorului 189 florini şi 47 de creiţari. Ne aflăm în faţa unei comunităţi în plină ascensiune care este capabilă să-şi ridice singură în anii următori o biserică din cărămidă, inaugurată în anul 1802. Deşi nu există o concordanţă perfectă între cele două tabele, cel din 1796 consemnând 722 de locuitori, pe când cel din 1797 doar 682 de locuitori, datele consemnate referitoare la starea socială, averea, numărul membrilor de familie, contribuţia la construirea bisericii, ne creează o imagine veridică a ceea ce a însemnat comunitatea greco-catolică sătmăreană la sfârşitul veacului al XVIII-lea. Greek-Catholics from Satu Mare at the end of the XVIIIth century Abstract The Romanian-Ukrainian community from Satu Mare is dating from at least the middle of the XVIIth century, when the documents mention it in town. This year 320 years passed since may the first 1690 when a part of Romanian and Ukrainian priests from Satu Mare County switched to Greek-Catholicism, recognizing the Pope as leader of the church. In may 4 1690 Greek-Catholics from Satu Mare (Romanian and Ukrainian) have consecrated their first wooden church, built in the so called Mintiu part of the town and dedicated to Saint Nicholas. Over the XVIIIth century the community has flourished; many years later, in 1792, reaching at 1343 souls, representing 17% of the town population. The census which we publish unfortunately refers only at the Satu Mare area of the town, leaving out the ones from Mintiu. We can notice that a number of 66 persons (9%) were considered citizens with full rights (cives); a second category, residents, counting 198 souls (27%) and the last category- cottars (inquilini) representing 17%. During the XVIII'11 century, from this community arise important people, which prove themselves becoming even mayors of the town: 1732- Mihok György (Mihoc Gheorghe), 1778- Mihalaky Matyas (Mihalachi Matei), 1804-Somlyai Mihály (Somliai Mihai). The family of the last one donates a considerable amount of money, 1500 florins for building the new community church. Anexe: 63
