FROM THE ACTIVITY OF THE DISTRICT SATU MARE SECTION

OF „ASTRA“

Summary

The aim of the whole activity of „Astra“ /The Association for the Romanian literature and the culture of the Romanian people from Transylvania/was the emancipation of the Romanians from the Austro —Hungarian monarchy, the development of the conscience of their national unity, the Association having of the Romanian naţional state.

For an ampler activity of „Astra“ in Satu Mare district, in 1898 it was organized the district Satu Mare section of the Association.

The paper presents aspects of the activity of „Astra“ in Satu Mare district before 1918.

Among the actions of „Astra“ in the villages of Satu Mare district we mention the presentation of many popular conferences on different instructive-educative themes, the organization of the teaching, courses, the setting up of the first popular libraries, the organization of some exhibitions, the stimulation of village chovuses, the encouragement of some cooperative associations etc.
