This also highlights the need for further studies of the distribution and morphology of the species in the broad sense. Pinus dalatensis is usually treated as a separate species, although SlLBA (1986) proposed its transfer under P. wallichiana A. B.Jackson at varietal level, a taxonomy usually not followed by others.
