Medzihradszky, Zsófia: Palynological investigation of a late Holocene sequence from Southwestern Hungary

LPAZ III: 460-? cm. The upper part of the zone is uncertain because of the hiatus in the pollen content. Tilia has constantly high value, the curve of Picea and Abies rises a little bit. LPAZ IV: ?-230 cm. The lower part of the zone is uncertain because of the hiatus. The extreme high peak (about 67%) and slow decrease of Fagus curve are the most characteristic features of this period. LPAZ V: 230-185 cm. Increase and peak of Quercus (about 30%), further decrease of Fagus, constant percentage of Carpinus (20%) are significant for the zone. LPAZ VI: 185-140 cm. Increase up to 20% Tilia, decreases Fagus curve. The conifers show gently rising value. 1st principal component of sample scores 52% E o c Fig. 3. Stratigraphie PCA plot of samples showing boundaries of the local pollen assemblage zones.
