Hably, Lilla; Zastawniak, E.: Distribution, taphonomy and palaeoecology of Ulmus L. in the Hungarian Egerian

Description. Leaves narrowly ovate, oblong or narrow-elliptic. Base rounded or cuneate, rarely asymmetric, apex acute or acuminate. Length of leaves 5.5 to 11.5 cm, mostly ca 10 cm, width 1.5-6.0 cm. Petiole 0.6-1.4 mm long. Venation craspedodromous. Primary vein straight, secondary veins 12 to 19 pairs, straight, 2-7 mm apart, closer together in the apical part of the leaf. The secondaries diverge from the central vein at an angle of ca 50° in the lower part of the leaf, 35^4-0° in the middle part. Forking of the secondary veins is rare and is present only on a few specimens, mostly in the lower part of the leaf. Leaf margin visible only on some specimens, simply serrate, particularly in the upper part of the leaf, rarely doubly serrate. Remarks. The most characteristic features of the above-described fossil leaves are the close venation, particularly in the upper part of the leaf and the regular shape, mostly narrow-ovate or oblong. The whole leaf margin is not clearly visible because of poor preservation, but it should be noted, that simple teeth are visible in the upper part of the leaf. Description. Leaves up to 11.0 cm long and 4 cm wide, asymmetric, with cordate base, apex unknown. Venation craspedodromous, secondary veins ca 16 pairs, slightly arched. Margin doubly serrate. Remarks. Only some leaf fragments of this species of Ulmus are preserved. They are very similar to the leaves of U. pseudopyramidalis, but differ in the leaf margin which is doubly senate. Ulmus sp.
