MATERIAL AND METHODS The bryophyte investigation, we based our study on, was conducted in the end of March and the beginning of April 2000, in the region of Petnica (UTM 30TDQ01 ; Fig. 1). Petnica and its surroundings are situated in western Serbia, close to the city of Valjevo. In a sense the area lies in a transitional Fig. 1.
