Ferenc NÉMETH ABSTRACT: The investigated area is situated in central Hungary, in the neighbourhood of Szabadszállás and Fülöpszállás villages. The natural vascular flora - including the ruderals and weeds - was studied on the basis of the author's coUections and coenological mappings in the years 1977-78. The composition of the flora was analysed according to the life-form, coenological and phytogeographical characters of the species then by comparing the corresponding distributions of the Hungarian flora, an attempt is made at phytogeographical and historical characterizing of the protected area. The third unit of KNP has been protected since 19 74, principally because of its extremely rich bird fauna. It belongs to the floral district Colocense of the Eupannonicum in the Central European region of the Holarctic floral impérium. Its area comprises 3906 ha. The natural vegetation is composed of sodic deserts and ponds and to a smaller extent fragments of marshy, sandy and loessic meadows. The agricultural and ruderal places take up a considerable area too. The botanical values of the area have been less known. There is no comprehensive work on the flora and vegetation of the Solti-plain the part of the floral district Colocense, to which our area belongs. Our knowledge has been derived from the data of collections, diaries and sporadic publications, and particularly from the generalization of the data of other sodiclike areas, e. g. Kiskun desert at Kunszentmiklós. Also the data from Szabadsz áUás (by ANDRASOVSZKY, DEGEN, LENGYEL, BOROS, JÁVORKA) are unsatisfying precise, they give only the name of village. For the purpose of a more effectiv nature conservation become necessary a more detailed investigation of the protected areas based on a thorough field work, which I made
