1. Session / Séance. Experiences gained, current Situation, future Prospects / Expériences acquises, Situation actuelle, Perspectives futures - Csendes, Peter: Cooperation between the Successor States of the Austro-Hungarian Monarchy / Coopération entre les Etats Successeurs de la Monarchie austro-hongroise (english 59 - français 66)
1. Session/Séance: Csendes, Cooperation between the Successor States with international standards22, in almost all provinces (Bundesländer) new archival buildings have been erected or will be in the near future. Therefore Austria, and especially Vienna, with a number of different types of archives, - even those of international organizations - could be a base for training and practical courses. To guarantee permanent and regular contacts, a committee should be founded to represent the countries of Central Europe - e. g. in the framework of the Central European Initiative, similar to the institutions of Arge Alp. Annual conferences of this committee could provide a forum to articulate special needs or problems, to be solved in cooperation or by organizing expert meetings or dezentralized training courses. Of course, such a programme could easily be enlarged. For a start, however, we should proceed in small but continuous steps, as it is not the number of committees, meetings and conferences which counts, but the better results we can get out of international professional cooperation. 22 Especially audio-visual archives are to be mentioned here, e.g. the archives of the ORF, the Austrian Broadcasting Corporation. 65
