Gymnasiologia Summary The title of this book is an allusion of Joann Rezik’s work, a rector of the Collegium Prešov (Eperjes) in the 17lh century. Simultaneously, it is also the title of the first chapter, representing the arrangement of the history of the city and its school by János Gömöry. The next chapter deals with the life and work of Sigismundus Gelous Torda, a famous humanistic author, who was a rector of the old city school. The initial chapter is followed by parts III through V, showing portraits of three noted professors of the Collegium (Otto Ludmann, Samu Wallentínyi, Géza Schöpflin). Géza Schöpflin translated the poem of Hviezdoslav (The Forester’s Wife), which is here the subject-matter of an analysis of translation to the Hungarian language. The 300th and 330th anniversaries of the Collegium foundation serve an overview with regard to the multicultural and multilingual character of the Collegium. The current project of the Collegium is now incorporated in the PHARE Program - „Collegium in Prešov (Eperjes), its Place and Relations in the Development of the European Thought”. Another chapter, „Élménycserkészet” (Scout Experiences), is a record of the Hungarian Scout group in Eperjes. Pál Maiéter was also its member. The final part is devoted to some works about the holocaust, of which some Jewish professors, high school graduates, and students of the Collegium and the former Academy of Law were victims. Many professors and high school graduates of the Collegium became members of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences. 183
