In the western region the computer defined a small entity that was not considered independent by the previous research (in the valley of the River Ipoly), while in Transylvania it kept together territories that were held as separate ethnographic units (Kászon, Háromszék, Hétfalu or, Gyimes, Gyergyó, Csík). The computer showed that of the great rivers of the Carpathian Basin the Danube has a bordering character while the Tisza a binding one. Regarding 68 clusters the Danube proved to be a definite border all along its valley except for the Danube Bend where the border runs in the Pilis Mountains, while in the valley of the Tisza all the borders between the cultural regions run across the river, ordering the settlements on both banks into the same cluster. This, especially along the upper and the middle valley, shows the effect of the so called flood plain economy, which influenced the traditional culture even at the turn of the 19th and 20th century.
