Kücsfv Miklós ABSTRACT The Possibilities of Strengthening the Identity and Proficiency of Church Ministers To be a church minister is a beautiful, many-sided and yet significant and continuous challenge for those who take it seriously. In this we are not different from those who take their careers seriously in various spheres of life. Every profession, every career has its own joys and pitfalls, and this holds true of being a church minister as well — a fact we are not to deny. At the same time we seem to forget about the fact that being a church minister and being present in the ministry may regularly force us to stop as long as we take ourselves and those to whom we minister seriously. I am forced to stop as a church minister to think about all that is happening to me, around me and in me while practicing my profession. And it forces the congregation to stop, raising questions such as, “Who is our church minister?” and What is our church minister like?” These stops help us face the questions: “What has happened to my calling?” and “How my calling is completed by developing my professional skills?” It is important to think over the pitfalls of our profession in order to be able to cope with them. This study is not able to, nor does it wish to reflect on all areas of being a church minister. However, it does raise basic questions that we ourselves are struggling with in our ministry, or we see how others have failed to respond to certain challenges. This study invites the readers to look for ways that can help us make our ministry an adventure and joy for all those involved, with the hope of strengthening our identity and enriching our proficiency. 92 SÁROSPATAKI FÜZETEK 2013/1-
