Utrecht: Ars Disputandi, 2003, 111-135. Abstract Postmodern shifts and new trends in Biblical hermeneutics. Biblical hermeneutics from the viewpoint of the oppressed and the excluded The political, social and intellectual shifts of the second half of the previous century are labelled altogether as the „postmodern paradigm shift” in academic understanding. Postmodernism’s impact, besides other disciplines, left its mark on theological thought as well. One of the branches of postmodern discourse within theology is widely known as „Theology of Liberation”. Concerning liberation theology it is rather relevant to speak about theologies of liberation, considering the fact, that in todays context we must deal with different branches of liberation theologies, such as feminist, postcolonial, diaspora, black theologies of liberation and many more. The starting point of liberation theologies maintains such a postmodern challenge to theological thought, that which could be debated in many ways, but cannot be neglected anymore. The purpose of this survey-type study is to examine the biblical hermeneutical endeavours of liberation theologies, in order to understand and reflect on their methods and results.
