SZSZBML, XV. 76. GÉZA SZABÓ: An Unsuccessful Attempt at the Consolidation of Debts in Nyírbátor During the World War I. (1914-1918) Nyírbátor had gradually been running into debt since the 1890s. Several plans were made to get out of the crisis but none of them were carried out. In 1916 the Boni Corporation, the only factory farm working in the village made a tender for taking a land of 1000 acres on lease for a period of 40 years. They undertook to execute significant investments and that all the buildings would be passed into the ownership of the village on expiration of the lease. The elaborated plan proved to be a tactical trick: the Boni Corporation only pretended to give financial help to the village. Moreover, the leadership of the village was not interested in solving the financial problems by the disintegration of the traditional economic structure.
