ANNA SZEGŐFI: My Observations and Remarks During the Selection and Assortment of the Records of Local Authority The socialist era's council documents of standing value have gradually been collected by the archives. It is a continuous challenge for the archives to handle the great number of documents. At the same time, for obvious reasons the archives mean to dispose of the material of the terminated era. When assorting records in the archives the most practical solution is to restore former order. A standard register of selection has been drawn up for a number of years to ease the hard but necessary job of selection. The Archives of Budapest, as well as the archivists of Heves and Nógrád counties, including the author, took part in making the auxiliary material. The use of the standard register of selection, which was recommended by the Archival Board and also sent to the other archives, unifies and simplifies the archivists' job. It is also important to make it possible to research into the material. Therefore we must remember to supply missing reference books and making new ones, as well. It is expedient to make indexes to the minutes of the executive committees, which are the basic sources of the council documents. We must not forget about the party guidance, which was present everywhere in the era, and the signs of which are also reflected in the records. LÁSZLÓ FODOR: Introducing the Archives of the Lakatos Family of Hodász The essay studies the archives of a typical gentry family of Szabolcs county from the 17 th century to 1945. The author takes the records issued before 1849 one by one chronologically enclosing a short summary and a collection of names to each of them. The archives dating from the period between 1849 and 1945 are selected and only the most important ones are reviewed. Besides studying these data the author has also done archival research to draw the history of the family. Peter, who was the ancestor of the Lakatos family obtained nobility as a citizen of Debrecen in 1637. His elder son was the ancestor of the branch of Hodász. The records were created and preserved during the life of his descendants. Most of the documents from the feudal era are in connection with the acquisition and extention of land. Sharing the inheritage, family squabbles and pledging were the most common cases. In the bourgeois era the market of
