AN OUTLINE OF THE HISTORY WRITING OF SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR

Kralovánszky. In its four volumes the mayor periods of town development are covered from the founding of Székesfehérvár to 1848. 33 The reorganisation of the Town Archives of Székesfehérvár gave an impulse to town historv research. The monograph bv Gyula Lauschmann was the first to be published by the institute in the reformed series of Articles from the histoiy of Székesfehérvár. Then The historical significance of the Virgin Mary Basilica in Székesfehérvár came out, which contains the lectures held at the academic conference on 16 May 1996. It can be seen from the publications mentioned above that it is mainly the source publications that can not be found in town history bibliography. To make up for the deficiency the Archives launched a new series in 1998 under the title Sources from the histoiy of Székesfehérvár, the first volume of which contains the most important sources of the Revolution and War of Independence 1848-49. We wish to work on this series as it is a task of vital importance for an institute with the aim of preserving sources to publish historical sources as widely as possible. The archives continued to publish lectures of conferences in novel form. Enlarged versions of the lectures of the academic conference held on the 150 th anniversary of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848-49 were published under the title "Kit szolgáltatok, egy árva hon volt" (Who you served was but a lonely homeland). It was followed by Buildingstones of our past, which issues a selection from the academic conferences that have been held by the archives since it was reformed. The writings found in the book cover the foundation of the Hungarian state, the role of Grand Duke Géza and King Stephen I in it, the question of the Golden Bull, and the different periods of Hungarian minting. The topics dealt here are related to the history of Székesfehérvár, thus studying these important periods of Hungarian history the reader can understand how important the role of Székesfehérvár was in it. Besides conference publications and publishing sources, it is important that monographs and volumes of essays and discourses write about the "building stones of our past" in the forthcoming years.
