ings on the life and work of bishop Ottokár Prohászka. Other writings also provoked interest such as the passages from the recollections of Emil Csitáry, once mayor of the town. In the same year the articles which explained the connections of the state founder King Stephen I and Székesfehérvár also aroused interest. In 1995 at the anniversary of the holocaust, the effects of national events on local life became the centre of interest again. Discourses were published on the settlement of Jews in Székesfehérvár and the local effects of the anti-Jewish laws. The editors' principle prevailed; to publish the results of research regarding both national and local issues is and has always been the mayor aim of the editors of Argus. In 1996 it was the Virgin Mary basilica and the Revolution and War of Independence of 1956 to be the most stressed topic in this column. In the following year an even wider range of research findings were published. This year two articles were published about Péter Gosztonyi, an excellent discourse was written on the musical history of Székesfehérvár before the Turkish period. Several discourses written for the conference of the 1000 th anniversary of the death of Grand Duke Géza were also published. Remembering the past included new results of the Prohászka-research and several discourses in connection with Székesfehérvár. The special issue on the 150 th anniversary of the Revolution and War of Independence of 1848 must be mentioned in 1998. In 1999 a wide range of topics and a large variety of discourses were published in a new layout. To sum up, not having given up its original aims Argus has changed its concept and successfully realised the need to give publicity to historical questions, as there isn't any other forum to do so in Székesfehérvár or in the county, nor any annals to publish the results of historical researches. Apart from the historical studies published in newspapers few books were written about the history of the town. During the preparations for the Millennium Fejér county was the first to invite Székesfehérvár to write a monograph. In February 1883 the general assembly of the county resolved the compilation of a comprehensive work
