A Historical and Archival Guide to Székesfehérvár (Székesfehérvár, 2003)
AN OUTLINE OF THE HISTORY WRITING OF SZÉKESFEHÉRVÁR
1848-49. 8 His articles in the Székesfehérvári Hírlap are mostly publishing sources, which follow the events of the revolution and war of independence in the town. The fact that several of the sources are now available only from his research makes his work even more significant. A discourse on The old statutes of Székesfejérvár Royal Free Borough (1741-1 775) is another significant publication by him. At the turn of the 20 h centurv town researchers also tended to focus their attention on this topic. Among his versatile activity it is worth highlighting his supporting and helping town history researches. His and his colleagues' contribution to János Károly's monograph should also be highlighted. Moenich's articles - many times published under the pseudonym Károly Magyar - were primarily published in the Székesfehérvári Hírlap, which supported the pro-independence political movement. One of the most significant political gazettes of the town, having Artúr Tóth as proprietor and managing editor, reflected the attitude of the Pro-independence Circle of Székesfehérvár. Periodicals, however, became popular only much later. Articles on the History of Transdanubia published by Dezső Rexa existed only for one year and ceased in the year of its foundation in 1911. Only four issues came out. Rexa left the town a little later and became the chief archivist first in Arva, later in Fejér and finally in Pest-Pilis-Solt-Kiskun counties. His field of interest coincided in many points with that of Károly Moenich's; he published mainly poetry and literary writings. He was also interested in the history of Hungarian theatre. One of his significant works is called National Actors from Székesfehérvár in Pest and Buda 1819-28. 9 * Researches into town history and new researches in the history of the villages of Fejér county were made simultaneously. Before János Károly's The History of Fejér County, which contains the historical data of the settlements of the county, the former county-towns, villages and also the data of destroyed settlements, historical research partially belonged to the Historical and Archaeological Society of Fejér County
