II. A magyarországi sörfőzés története
Martfűn a cég termelésének egyötöde, azaz félmillió hektoliter sör készült. 2017 nyarán döntött úgy a Heineken Hungária cég vezetése, hogy beszünteti a sörgyártást Martfűn. „Mivel a Soproni Sörgyár rendkívül nagy fejlesztési potenciállal és termelési rugalmassággal rendelkezik, így egy károm éve megkezdett fejlesztési folyamat következő állomásaként Sopronban konszolidálja inkább a teljes magyarországi termelést a Heineken." A cégcsoport azonban megtartotta a gyárat, amelynek a jövőre nézve más feladatokat szántak: „A martfűi üzemünket fokozatosan disztribúciós és logisztikai központtá alakítjuk át, még jobban kihasználva az egység logisztikai szempontból kulcsfontosságú, délkelet-magyarországi fekvését. A martfűi átalakítás fokozatos lesz, előreláthatólag 12 hónapot vesz igénybe, a gyár jelenleg főszezon szerinti ütemezésben üzemel.” (Bors Kata, a Heineken kommunikációs munkatársának nyilatkozata a Serteperte c. online folyóirat 2017. július 31-i számában.) There were concerns that they might close the plant in Martfű, but it kept operating. Martfű provided a fifth of the company's total beer output, that is they brewed some half a million hectolitres of beer, in the summer of 2017 the management of the Heineken Hungária company decided to end beer production in Martfű: "Since the Sopron Brewery has an enormous development potential and flexibility in terms of production, we arrive at the next station of a process that began three years ago, wherein Heineken will consolidate its entire Hungarian production in Sopron.” Nevertheless, the company will hold on to the brewery plant, though its function will be different in the future: "We will gradually convert our plant in Martfű into a distribution and logistical centre, making even better use than hitherto of its geographical position in southeastern Hungary, which is vital from a logistical perspective. This transition in Martfű will be gradual and is projected to take 12 months. At this time, the brewery operates according to its main season schedule."
