11 Furniture of the Friedl Confectionery A confectioner from Göttingen opened a shop at 678 Nagyhíd Street (now 21 Deák Ferenc Street) on Pest in 1839. Georg C. Tolle was born into a bakers’ family, and studied confectionering in his native town. After five years of mandatory apprenticeship abroad, he arrived at Pest in 1834, where he first worked for Péter Fischer, the most famous Hun­garian confectioner of the era. ?en for another year he worked in Jakab Strauss’ confectionery.
