RÁC FÜRDŐ,BUDAPEST The bath was mentioned in 1438 for the first time, and was already thriving during the reign of King Zsigmond when Hungary was occupied by the Turks. After the Turkish occupation the bath was owned by an Austrian captain and his descendants. A large scale of building activities may have been carried out in the 18th century. In the 1860s Miklós Ybl extended in two steps the building owned by the doctor Heinrich Nepomuk. First the hot water pool for men was made ready completed with the bathtub and other rooms as well as the two-aisled shower hall with its sitting baths. The facaded, four-storied building housed a pansion as well. The bath for women in the Eastern wing was made ready some time later - The facade of the big courtyard was extended with a colonnade, and the smaller one was covered. Before the turn of the past century this complex was completed with a steam and stone bath for women, a public bath and several other services. BUDAPEST, RÁC FÜRDŐ (RÉSZLET) A fürdőegyüttes kiemelkedő minőségű tere volt a két új medence és a férfi zuhany. Faragott kövek, gazdag stukkódíszítés, csipkés ívek egyesültek a tökéletes romantikus architektúrában. Ybl a gazdag belső kiképzés mellett a legmodernebb technikai megoldásokat is alkalmazta. 1931-től a fürdőt Budapest főváros üzemeltette, a közintézmény sorsát a Tabán lebontása nem érintette. A II. világháborúban az épület súlyos károkat szenvedett, és a 60-as években számos olyan részt is elbontottak, ami helyreállítható lett volna. Az 19. századi építkezésből így csak az egykori melegvizes csarnok maradt meg, de a falakról eltűnt a stukkó, a festett dekoráció. A fürdő revitalizációja folyik, a történeti részek helyreállítása és restaurálása mellett egy modern fürdőegyüttes építésével új szakasz kezdődik a Rác fürdő életében.
