65. Entering the stage and Matthias Hunyadi. Matthias' chefs included, among others, György Veres, Péter Orros and Miklós Orros, Wladislas ll's had chefs called György Kovács and János Vidi Gondos. István Tolvay and Illés Gondos were employed by king Louis II. Deeds dating from 1466 mention a village called Nagzakach, which enjoyed the privileges of a town. The historical facts speak for themselves, and to this day the descendants of the royal chef dynasties live in the village, their names evoking the profession of their elders: the Kövér [Fat], Szita [Sieve] and Bárány [Lamb] families. Júlia Béres Marosi, a teacher, initiated Historical the Royal Chefs Society (Királyi Szakácsok Nyomdokán Hagyományőrző Egyesület). The society's cooking contests, organised for 16 years now, are highly prised events on the Hungarian culinary scene. It was not all plain sailing. The pitfalls of organising an open-air festival of this kind presented themselves as
