ENIKŐ SIPOS Conservation of the mitre stored in the Treasury of the Basil­ica of Esztergom The coronation insignia of the Hungarian kings had been kept in Székesfehérvár, whereas the paraphernalia of the prelate performing the coronation were always in Esztergom. The mitre deco­rated with pearls, which - ac­cording to the tradition - had been used at the coronations, comes also from Esztergom. Written data referring to this remained however only from the last two coronations. Nothing refers to the person who ordered it, but based on its stylistical characteristics Antal Lepold connected the mitre to the name of György Pálóczy, archbishop (1423­1439.) or to his successor Dé­nes Szécsi (1439-1465.). At the coronation of Charles IV. János Csemoch, the arch­bishop has worn it. It was shown also at the exhibition organized on occasion of the Millenium. It has got a pentagonal shape, its two shorter sides are held together by a gilded silver ro­tary band. Its lappets are con­nected with a gilded silver fastener to the mitre, with an embossed fastener decorated with gothic leaves and parrots. The horns of the mitre are decorated with cross and aq-
