THEAT RUM 1963. X. (Summary) A conference of theatre research was held at the Hungarian Academy of Sciences by the Institute of Theatrical Sciences and the National Museum of Theatre History to celebrate the 10th anniversary of these institutions^ Dr. Gyula Ortutay,member of the Academy opened the discussion that centred around three lectures. The lectures were given by Dr. Ferenc Hont, candidate for the Academy of Sciences, winner of the Kossuth prize, Director of the Institute of Theatrical Sciences, on the 12th November, 1962 and by Dr. Tekla Dömötör, candidate for the Academy of Sciences, departmental head of the Institute and by Dr. György Székely, Vice Director, on the 13th November. In our annual we publish the lectures and the discussions in an abridged form. The three lectures discuss three fields of theatre research, namely: 1. the methodological problems of the theory of art and science specifically applied to theatre arts, 2. the results and tasks of the history of the theatre, 3. the problems of a new discipline: the study of theatrical practice. The subjects of theatrical history and their relation to the living practice of the theatre were discussed and summarized by Dr. Ferenc Hont. Dr. Hont in his lecture briefly surveyed the development of theatre research in Hungary and pointed out that before 1952 researchers in Hungary had been working isolatedly though there had been - 182 -
