INTRODUCTION Introduction As every year, this year too we have reached the point where the data of the Hungarian Theatre Yearbook have been collected for the theatrical season of 2013/14, and they are ready to be published. Probably it comes as no surprise to the readers to know how long and diligent work is needed for such a dataset to be compiled, meant to be an indispensable resource for the future researchers of the theatre life of our times. For this we need to keep a close contact with the theatres and the cultural press, in order to be able to always offer the most current and accurate picture of the theatre scene in Hungary. This is not the first year when we publish the yearbook in this slightly transitional format: the 20lh century printed format with a 21st century DVD supplement, The printed book preserves the usual data fields: the contact information of Hungarian repertory theatres and receiving venues, of the institutes of theatre education and the different theatre associations. This is followed by the list of guest performances of Hungarian theatres abroad and the foreign guest performances invited to Hungary. The names of artists who have received awards from the state or different professional organizations. The list of theatre festivals, which are happily increasing. The titles and records of the theatre books and magazines published in 2013. The losses of the Hungarian theatre world: the names of artist deceased in the season. The DVD supplement contains the productions of the season in a thematic split: spoken, musical, dance and youth productions. On the DVD we also wished to present the professional and educational museology events at the Hungarian Theatre Museum and Institute. We also present a selection of the exhibits of the 2013/2014 season and video highlights of our conferences and other events at the Gizi Bajor Theatre Museum. We truly hope that our 45lh Theatre Yearbook in the series will be used with benefit by our contemporary readers and the future researchers of our times. The Editors 8
