THE RESEARCH RESULTS REGARDING A GROUP OF BOOKBINDINGS

FROM THE LÁNYI CODEX Abstract

The present paper discusses a specific group of Hungarian Renaissance bookbindings, based on 16 selected bindings belonging to the Lányi Codex. The groups of Hungarian Renaissance bindings were defined according to their stamps by Eva Koroknay, in her book dealing with the subject.

The research of the selected bindings from the Lányi Codex has led to the discovery of several new bookbindings which have not been elaborated by Eva Koroknay. The current study tries to jusify the rightfullness of rating the 16 chosen bookbindings into a new group. Consequently, we extended the description of the stamps found on the 16 bindings with the comparison of the specific bookbinding technique. The published illustrations allow the readers to further study and verify these findings.
