UN PROFESOR ŞI OM DE SŢIINŢĂ DIN ŢINUTUL SECUIESC: JÁKÓ IMETS FÜLÖP (1837-1912) Rezumat Lucrarea prezintă viaţa şi activitatea lui Jákó Imets Fülöp, om de cultură deosebit, profesor şi om de ştiinţă, personalitate a bisericii romano-catolice, care şi-a desfăşurat activitatea în a doua jumătate a secolului al 19-lea. Preot romano-catolic, canonic (din 1891), profesor şi director de liceu, scriitor şi istoric, cercetător cunoscut al maghiarilor din afara graniţelor de atunci. Jákó Imets Fülöp s-a născut la Tuşnad (Nagytusnăd) la 12 noiembrie 1837. Studiile secundare le-a absolvit la Şumuleu-Ciuc (Csíksomlyó) şi Odorheiu-Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely). A urmat teologia la Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár) şi Budapesta, a obţinut diploma de licenţă în geografie şi istorie la Universitatea din Budapesta. Prin activitatea de profesor şi director a reuşit să modernizeze două instituţii de învăţământ. Din 1867 a fost director al liceului din Alba Iulia, iar între anii 1870-1890 al liceului romano-catolic din Şumuleu-Ciuc. A introdus o serie de inovaţii în procesul de învăţământ. între 1871-1890a publicat anuarele şcolare. De-a lungul întregii sale cariere a stat în serviciul bisericii romano-catolice. în 1891 a fost numit la biserica romano-catolică din Alba Iulia. A desfăşurat o activitate bogată în slujba comunităţii, fiind membru al diferitelor asociaţii culturale. Jákó Imets Fülöp a încetat din viaţă la 24 octombire 1912, fiind înmormântat în satul natal, Tuşnad. Lucrarea trece în revistă şi cele mai importante realizări ale operei sale, ca scriitor şi istoric. Pe lângă scrieri beletristice, a publicat o serie de articole în domeniul istoriei secuimii, a fost preocupat şi de problema emigrării secuilor. Pasionat de călătorii, a scris şi jurnale de călătorie. Cel despre călătoria în Moldova şi Ţara Românescă din 1868 a fost publicat în 1870 la Târgu Mureş (Marosvásárhely), şi republicat în 2004. _________________EGY SZÉKELYFÖLDI TUDÓS-PEDAGÓGUS: IMETS FÜLÖP JÁKÓ... JÁKÓ IMETS FÜLÖP (1837-1912), AN ACADEMIC FROM THE SZEKLER REGION Abstract The following study shows the career of a scholarly academic and church personality who was active in the second half of the 19th century. Jákó Imets Fülöp was a highly educated man. His professional life was characterized by a polymathic knowledge, for within one person he was Roman Catholic canon, archdeacon, teacher, director of the grammar school, organizer of schools, writer, literary translator and well-known researcher of the Hungarians who lived beyond the borders of the state at that time. Jákó Imets Fülöp was born in Tuşnad (Nagytusnád) on 12th November 1873- He finished his secondary studies in Şumuleu-Ciuc (Csíksomlyó) and Odorheiu Secuiesc (Székelyudvarhely), then graduated theology in Alba Iulia (Gyulafehérvár), and later obtained a teacher’s certificate in Geography and History in Budapest. As a teacher, director and school-organizer he raised the status of not just one but two schools to the level of the developed schools of that time. In 1867 he was appointed Director to the Secondary School in Gyulafehérvár, and then, from 1870 to 1890, he became Director of the Secondary7 School of Şumuleu-Ciuc. Under his directorship the school was raised to the status of main secondary school. He modernized the school extensively, from the school year of 1871 he launched the Értesítők or yearbooks. Canon Imets remained in the service of the Catholic Church from first to last, he was honorary archdeacon, of the chapter of Alba Iulia and canon as well. At the same time he took on very actively many public roles, he worked in many societies for the local community. Jákó Imets Fülöp died on 24tFl October 1912 and was buried in his native village, Tuşnad. This study summarizes in short Canon Imets’s most important achievements in literarature, social writing and historical work. Besides the belles-lettres he was interested in history and many of his essays appeared on the histoty of the Szeklers. Many essays appeared as well concerning the Szekler emigration. His travel diary about his journey in the Romanian Kingdom in 1868, entitled ‘Travelling in Moldva-Oldhhon in 1868’ was printed in Târgu Mureş (Marosvásárhely) in 1870, and re-printed in 2004. 217
