SZÁZADI NYOMTATVÁNYOK KATALÓGUSA Abstract: [The Old Hungarian Books Collection of the Ciuc Szekler Museum. II. The Catalogue of 17 Century Publications] This work is a contribution to old Hungarian bibliography. In the previous issue of the museum yearly I have presented the history of the research of the old books fund in the collection of the Ciuc Szeklar Museum, namely the collection of books published before 1711. This fund comprises editions printed in Hungarian, anywhere in the world, or in any language, on the territory of Hungary but also foreign books edited in any other language but Hungarian, books that are in part or entirely works of authors originating from Hungary. In 2008 we have published the volumes and prints in the fund dating back to the 16th century - all in all 47 titles. This time, we intend to present in detail 85 publications from the 17th century, belonging to the category of old Hungarian books. According to international standards, the set of general data (author, title, date of publishing, format, pagination, general bibliography), is followed by a description of the peculiar characteristics of each volume: its state of preservation, missing parts, if the case may be (A), description of the bond, the naming, if possible, of the workshop where the book had been bound (B), letter by letter transcription of ownership inscriptions (C) or of any other inscriptions (D), the specification, if necessary, of colligates (E), the bibliography characteristic for the volume (F), and its inventory number. Again, the books are presented in chronological order, while the ones published the same year are given in the alphabetical order of the place of publishing, in compliance to the retrospective bibliography of Károly Szabó (RMK). The books are products of famous European printing houses from Amsterdam (2), Bratislava (Jesuit Printing House: 13, 8 of which in cooperation with Rickhes Mihály from Wien), Cluj (9), Debrecen (2), Franeker (1), Frankfurt am Main (2), Graz (2), Heidelberg (2), Levoca (1), Trnava (printing house of the Jesuit Academy : 21), Wien (33, of which 8 in cooperation with the Jesuit printing house in Bratislava). Four books were printed in the Franciscan monastery of Şumuleu-Ciuc (Rom.; - Hung.: Csíksomlyó), which had an important cultural role in the life of Catholic Szeklers in the Ciuc Region, but also had a word to say in the cultural life of Transylvania and Moldavia. The books are extremely valuable especially owing to their belonging to the library of famous collectors (cathilc priests from the Ciuc Region: György Ferenczi, János Benkes, Pál Ebeczki, pater Beleni, Miklós János László, Mózes Nagy, founder of the schools in Estelnie and Kanta, etc.; noblemen’s collections of: Mihály Cserei, Ferenc Bialis, Tamás Potyó, Ferenc Bors, János Bocskor; small collections of school-teachers: János Adorján, János Bogos, Imre Gábor). The greatest part of these publications used to belong to the famous medieval library of the Franciscans in Şumuleu-Ciuc, to the Franciscan monastery in Călugăreni (Rom.; - Hung.: Mikháza, Mureş county) and Odorheiu Secuiesc (Rom.; - Hung.: Székelyudvarhely), but also to certain Jesuit residences such as those in Trnava and Odorhei. Simultaneously, the bibliophile value of these publications also originates in their time- related relations, as they are products of famous binding workshops in Transylvania (Cluj, Şumuleu-Ciuc) and Hungary. 365
